Actor and director Jody Foster says she ended up changing a role in her new movie The Beaver to fit Louisville actress Jennifer Lawrence. In the movie, Mel Gibson plays a man who uses a beaver hand puppet to talk to his wife. Lawrence plays the girlfriend of Mel Gibson’s son. The Internet Movie Database says her character has a secret.

“It’s like she has tragedy etched in her face,” Foster told the entertainment website Ain’t It Cool News, “and trust me, Jenn Lawrence is not a tragic person.”

Foster told Ain’t It Cool, “…she has that thing in her face that’s like she has been through something, you know she’s been through something.” It’s a quality Foster says she saw in Lawrence’s Oscar-nominated performance in Winter’s Bone, though The Beaver, she says, is a very different movie.

he right one for the part — until she saw Lawrence. She says that’s when she realized it was the part that needed to change, and it was rewritten to go with her strengths.

The release of “The Beaver”, which completed filming in 2009, has been delayed because of the controversy over Gibson and audio of phone conversations with his former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, in which he is allegedly heard to be insulting and threatening her. (Source)
